Former coach of the Algerian national football team, Djamel Belmadi, appears to have escalated his dispute with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF). Belmadi’s dismissal came after Algeria’s premature elimination in the group stage of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Following these disappointing results, the FAF terminated Belmadi’s contract, although the termination has not been officially confirmed.

Having exhausted all other options, Belmadi is said to have decided to bring the matter before FIFA. According to sources close to the situation, the 2018 African champion has met with legal advisors in Paris to finalize his complaint against the FAF. The former coach is seeking compensation equivalent to the remaining 35 months of his contract, approximately 7 million euros.
