On the eve of the Uganda vs. Algeria match, which is part of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has suspended a player for 6 months.

Indeed, the Disciplinary Committee has announced its decisions today, Sunday, regarding the matches of the 28th round of the professional championship. The sanctions imposed include a particularly severe measure against ES Sétif’s player, Abdelmalek Oukil, as well as sanctions for other players from different teams.

The official website of the Professional League, which is under the supervision of the FAF and managed by the FAF’s vice president, has published the decisions of the Disciplinary Committee, highlighting the reasons and details of the sanctions. Abdelmalek Oukil, a player from ES Sétif, has been suspended for a period of six months, with three months suspended.

This sanction stems from behavior deemed unethical towards one of the match officials. Oukil’s actions were deemed contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship, prompting a firm reaction from the Committee. The three-month suspended period means that part of the sanction will not be immediately enforced, provided the player does not reoffend during this time.

In addition to the sanction imposed on Oukil, another ES Sétif player, Imad Ben Chlef, has also been punished by the Disciplinary Committee. He has received a two-match suspension due to a serious offense committed during the same round of the championship. The nature of this offense was not detailed in the statement, but its severity warranted such a suspension.

Apart from the individual sanctions imposed on ES Sétif players, the Disciplinary Committee has also taken financial measures against several other clubs. Fines of 1 million dinars have been imposed on players from Etoile de Magra, Etoile de Ben Aknoun, USM Alger, JS Saoura, and CS Constantine.

These financial sanctions result from repeated contestation of referee decisions by players from these teams. Such contestation is considered an infringement on the authority of referees and discipline on the field.

The Professional League hopes that these measures will contribute to improving fair play and respect in future matches, thus ensuring a fairer and more enjoyable competition for all involved stakeholders.
