Speculations have been circulating in the media and on social networks regarding a possible retirement of the famous sports commentator Hafid Derradji, a collaborator of the BeIN Sports channels. Moroccan sources have relayed an alleged decision from the Qatari channels’ management to retire him on October 10, 2024.

However, the denial quickly made headlines, stating that BeIN Sports is not currently considering such a measure. Qatari law sets the retirement age at 60, but institutions have the option to extend it up to 70 if the individual is in good health. Regarding Hafid Derradji’s residency status, the Algerian specialist now benefits from a permanent residency permit in Qatar, allowing him to reside in the country for life.

These rumors emerged in several Moroccan media outlets after a statement from Hafid Derradji expressing his desire to cover the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco if he were assigned this mission.

It’s worth noting that the management of the Qatari channel had previously decided to retire several journalists and sports commentators, including Lakhdar Berriche, Hicham Khaloua, Raouf Khaleef, and Youssef Saif, justifying its decision by reaching the legal retirement age in Qatar.
