As of June 25, 2024, the Economic Brigade of the Judicial Police of the Wilaya of Algiers reportedly questioned former presidents of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), as well as officials, employees, and former members of the FAF’s federal bureau, as part of an investigation into financial matters during the FAF’s recent management.
This information comes from the highly reliable journalist Chouaib Kahoul.
Investigators focused on expenditures related to organizing the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the African Under-17 Cup of Nations. They also addressed financial benefits received by former FAF officials, including a former national team manager, as well as bonuses and gratuities, including those related to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations victory.
Other aspects under scrutiny included match bonuses paid in foreign currencies to local international players and the use of a private hotel to accommodate federal bureau members during their stays in the capital. The same source indicated that the investigation will expand to involve additional names and personalities in the coming days.
