Islam Slimani, whose contract with Malines ends on June 30th, is seeking a new adventure. The top scorer in the history of the Algerian national team appears keen on continuing his career in Europe.

In recent hours, Slimani has been linked with a move to France, particularly to Auxerre, following a recent and unconvincing stint at Brest, where he stayed for only six months. Despite this, he aims to play at the highest level to regain a place in the national team, from which he has been sidelined since coach Vladimir Petkovic took over.

Slimani remains popular in Belgium, where two clubs, whose names haven’t been disclosed, are closely monitoring him. He played for Anderlecht last year and then for Malines, maintaining an excellent reputation. At Anderlecht, he scored 9 goals and provided 1 assist in 16 matches, while netting 3 goals and delivering 4 assists for Malines.

At 36 years old, Slimani is nearing the end of his career but still dreams of playing in the 2026 World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with the Algerian national team, which missed out on the last two editions in Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022.
