Ismaël Bennacer, a key player for AC Milan in Italy, is planning to temporarily change his Moroccan identity to an Algerian one during a special event in Italy.
At 26 years old, Bennacer holds three nationalities: Moroccan through his father, Algerian through his mother, and French by birth in Arles. In his sports career, he has chosen to represent the Algerian national team since 2016, playing in 46 international matches and winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, where he was also named the best player of the tournament.
For a special occasion, Bennacer will temporarily change his surname to “Ben Sahnoun” for one day, in tribute to his mother. Players from AC Milan and other Italian clubs will wear jerseys bearing their mothers’ names during the 36th round of Serie A, in honor of Mother’s Day.
Stefano Pioli, the coach of AC Milan, has confirmed Bennacer’s participation in an upcoming match against Cagliari. Rumors suggest that AC Milan might consider placing Bennacer on the transfer list for the next summer transfer window to strengthen the midfield, although he has experienced a drop in form following a knee injury in April 2023, only playing 22 matches this season with a single assist.
