The national team coach, Petkovic, has caused a shockwave by excluding Riyad Mahrez from the Greens’ squad for the upcoming training camp, triggering a strong reaction from Said Benrahma.
Said Benrahma, an Algerian footballer playing for Olympique Lyonnais and a key player for the Algerian national team, has declined to comment on the notable absence of the team captain, Riyad Mahrez, during the ongoing June camp.
This camp, aimed at preparing for the upcoming matches against Guinea on June 6th and Uganda on June 10th, marks a crucial step for the Greens. However, for the second consecutive time, Riyad Mahrez was not included in the list of players called up for this camp, sparking questions and speculations within the sports community.
Upon his arrival at Houari Boumediene International Airport this Saturday, Said Benrahma was asked a question by the “El Nahar” newspaper regarding Riyad Mahrez’s absence. With humility, he simply responded: “I am not the national team coach.” This concise yet significant response reflects both Benrahma’s respect for hierarchy and his willingness not to interfere with the coach’s decisions.
Mahrez’s absence, as the iconic captain of the team, could have significant repercussions on the team’s morale and cohesion. However, Benrahma appears to adopt a professional attitude by focusing on his own role within the team rather than speculating on selection choices. His cautious response demonstrates his maturity and commitment to the national team.
