The management of Mouloudia Club d’Alger (MCA) had to adjust its plans for the summer transfer window, in light of its participation in the CAF Champions League, following their victory in the Algerian Professional League 2023-24.

This decision came after an indirect interference from Vladimir Petkovic, the coach of the Algerian national team, which disrupted the club’s plans.

According to reliable sources, MCA, led by Hakim Hadj Redjem, was considering recruiting Yassine Benzia, the star of Qarabağ FK from Azerbaijan. Benzia was part of MCA’s plans to assemble a “dream team” capable of shining in the most prestigious continental competition.

However, the call-up of the Algerian international by Petkovic for the national team training camp last March changed the game. Benzia impressed during this gathering, notably scoring a spectacular goal against South Africa, which went viral and drew global attention.

Thanks to his outstanding performances with the national team and his club, Benzia now aspires to return to a European league. His resurgence with the national team has increased his value and ambitions, making his transfer to MCA unlikely. The Algerian club must therefore rethink its recruitment strategies to strengthen its squad ahead of the upcoming Champions League season.
