The decision to terminate the contract of a player from the Algerian national team has sparked a wave of controversies.
The disputes committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has decided to terminate the contract of Algerian national team goalkeeper, Gaya Merbah, with his club, IR Tanger.
Sources confirmed to “Sport 360Le” that the disputes committee unilaterally canceled Merbah’s contract, even though it was still valid for two more seasons. These sources added that the contract termination is due to Merbah’s failure to receive payment from the management of IR Tanger for several months, with an unspecified amount reported by “Sport 360Le”.
According to these same sources, once he receives notification of contract termination, the Moroccan club’s goalkeeper will be free to join any team. It is expected that Gaya Merbah will be absent from IR Tanger’s goalposts during the last two rounds of the Moroccan league and will not participate in matches against Renaissance Berkane and Wydad Casablanca. Recently, Merbah has been the target of harsh criticism from Moroccan activists on social media, accusing him of negligence in some matches for IR Tanger.
In a phone interview with “Tanger Maintenant,” the 29-year-old player expressed his deep regret and astonishment at the defamatory campaign against him, claiming that its goal was to tarnish his reputation. Merbah denied malicious rumors circulating about him, stating that they deeply affected him. He also denied that money was the reason for his transfer to IR Tanger, emphasizing that he had turned down offers from several other clubs, which demonstrates his attachment and respect for the team. Merbah joined IR Tanger on January 31, 2023, during the winter player transfer window, after terminating his contract with Raja Casablanca.
