Morocco threatens Amoura for the Ebony Shoe, awarded to the best player of African origin in the Belgian championship. The five finalists have been unveiled for this prestigious award.
As the Belgian season draws to a close, the five contenders for the Ebony Shoe have been revealed for the 2023-2024 season. Among them is Algerian Mohamed Amoura (Union Saint-Gilloise), as well as one of his direct competitors, Moroccan Bilal El Khannouss (Genk). Also on the list are Togolese Kevin Denkey (Cercle Bruges), Mauritanian Aboubakary Koita (Saint-Trond), and Belgian international of Guinean origin, Mandela Keita (Antwerp). They are vying to succeed Belgian international Mike Trésor.
El Khannouss, nominated the previous year, has maintained a certain consistency this season with 3 goals and 6 assists, compared to just one goal and 5 assists the previous season. However, he faces stiff competition, notably from Koita, who has scored 15 goals and provided 2 assists, and especially from Amoura and Denkey.
Amoura and Denkey appear to be the favorites at the moment. The Algerian player is the revelation of the Jupiler Pro League, having scored 17 goals and provided 2 assists. His most serious rival seems to be Denkey, the top scorer of the Jupiler Pro League with 26 goals.
