The transfer of Youcef Atal to Olympique de Marseille is in question following statements from Marseille’s mayor, Benoit Payan, who strongly opposes the signing.
However, according to a reliable source, Marseille’s management has not abandoned the Atal deal.
The club’s leaders have expressed displeasure at the mayor’s intervention in club affairs, particularly after his remarks regarding Mason Greenwood, who is close to signing with Marseille and has been accused of domestic violence. Despite the controversy, Marseille still intends to recruit Youcef Atal, pending the departure of Jonathan Clauss.
OM President Pablo Longoria reassured supporters, stating, “For us, Atal is a player who can contribute to our team.” He emphasized that the mayor’s pressure does not concern him, adding, “Atal is not banned from staying in France, he pays his taxes, I don’t see why we couldn’t sign him.” Concerned supporters plan to visit La Commanderie to express their discontent.
Meanwhile, in Nice, the Algerian defender continues intensive training under the supervision of Alexander Dellal, former fitness coach of the Algerian national team. Atal appears physically prepared for his next potential move, possibly to Marseille.
