Algerian international midfielder Rachid Ghezzal is facing a dilemma as his future at Besiktas in Turkey appears uncertain. Despite his strong preference to stay with the Turkish club, tensions between the player and the management seem to have reached a breaking point.

Ghezzal, whose contract expires next month, had the option to extend his stay at Besiktas for an additional season, contingent on him participating in more than 20 matches this season—a condition he met. However, the decision by Besiktas management to remove this clause has disrupted the player’s plans.

Now in his fourth season with Besiktas, the Algerian player is reportedly no longer in the team’s plans for the coming season. This development has cast doubt on his future at the club where he has been playing since the summer of 2020.

Besiktas’ dilemma is not limited to Ghezzal alone. With the return of several loaned players, the club faces an oversupply of foreign players on its roster. According to current regulations, Besiktas must reduce its foreign contingent to 12 players, which would mean the departure of seven players, including Ghezzal, from the team.

In a recent statement, Ghezzal expressed his attachment to Besiktas and his desire to continue playing there. However, he also hinted at upcoming changes within the club, suggesting that these could influence his decision. “I love Besiktas, I want to stay, but the management mentioned that there will be a new system in the new era… I respect that,” the Fennec shared.

This situation marks a potential turning point in Ghezzal’s career at Besiktas. After being a key part of the club’s successes, including winning a league and cup double, the Algerian player has faced challenges due to injuries, which have limited his playing time and contribution on the field.
