Riyad Mahrez, the Algerian international, has faced severe criticism from the supporters of his club Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia following his disappointing performance in the match against Al-Hilal the night before last, in a delayed game from the 28th round of the Saudi Pro League.
Fans held him responsible for the defeat (2-1) and have called on the club’s management to let him go during the next summer transfer period.
The official Al-Ahli account on the “X” platform highlighted Mahrez’s “negative statistics,” noting that he had scored no goals, made no assists, had no shots on target, and lost the ball 10 times. This post triggered a strong reaction from supporters, openly expressing their desire to see the player leave the club at the end of the season.
These criticisms come despite Mahrez’s reputation as one of the top players of the Saudi club, with 31 matches played across all competitions, totaling 2702 minutes, 11 goals, and 12 assists, according to Transfermarkt.
It is important to note that the national team captain’s agent recently denied rumors of his departure next summer, suggesting that Mahrez plans to stay with the team for the upcoming season.
