The official account of the Saudi Pro League celebrated on Sunday, July 28, the one-year anniversary of Algerian international Riyad Mahrez’s arrival at Al-Ahli.
Signed in the summer of 2023 from Manchester City, the captain of the Algerian national team had helped his former club achieve a historic treble: the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League.
Mahrez’s transfer to Al-Ahli cost around 35 million euros. He signed a contract until the summer of 2027. Quickly, he shone on Saudi pitches, enchanting supporters with his dribbling and assists.
In his first season, Mahrez played 33 matches, scored 12 goals, and made 14 assists in the Saudi League and the Saudi Cup, totaling 26 offensive contributions. His performance helped Al-Ahli finish in third place in the championship, behind Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr.
Currently, the captain of the Algerian national team is participating in Al-Ahli’s training camp in Austria. The team has already won three friendly matches and is preparing to face Al-Hilal in the semi-finals of the Saudi Super Cup on August 13, before starting the new season against Al-Orouba on August 23.
