Djamel Benlamri, a defender for the Algerian national team, has revealed the reasons behind his departure from Olympique Lyonnais, where he played for a short period.
In an interview, Benlamri explained that his departure from the French club was not motivated by sporting reasons, but rather by personal and family circumstances. At the time, Juninho, then the sporting director of Lyon, wanted to extend his contract for an additional two years. However, Benlamri had to decline this offer due to visa issues complicating his situation in France.
Furthermore, Benlamri mentioned that his decision was also influenced by his family life, particularly the fact that his daughter was still very young at the time. The difficult personal situation thus weighed heavily in the balance, forcing him to consider options that would offer more stability for his family.
Shortly thereafter, a highly attractive financial proposal from Qatar came into play. This offer, not only lucrative but also compatible with his personal needs, led the African champion with the Algerian national team to accept the Qatari contract, thereby ending his journey with Olympique Lyonnais.
This choice marked a turning point in his career, allowing him to continue his professional path while ensuring the well-being of his family.
