Since his dismissal from the Algerian national team in January 2024, Djamel Belmadi has yet to find a new position. Regularly linked with various clubs and national teams, the former coach of the Fennecs still attracts interest.
Recently, it’s the Saudi club Al Ahli from Jeddah that has reportedly shown interest in his services, according to the sports newspaper El Heddaf. The Saudi club, where Riyad Mahrez already plays, seems dissatisfied with their current coach’s performance and sees Belmadi as a potential replacement.
Although no official contact has been confirmed between Al Ahli’s management and Djamel Belmadi, this news has already sparked much speculation. If Belmadi were to join Al Ahli, he would reunite with Mahrez, thus strengthening the Algerian presence within the club.
Furthermore, Yacine Brahimi, another Algerian talent, is also in discussions with Al Ahli for a potential transfer. However, Brahimi’s possible arrival could be complicated by his past relationship with Belmadi. Despite these uncertainties, the prospect of seeing Belmadi, Mahrez, and Brahimi united under the colors of Al Ahli is already exciting Algerian and Saudi supporters.
For Djamel Belmadi, joining Al Ahli would represent a new opportunity to prove his coaching abilities, after leading Algeria to victory in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. For Al Ahli, it would be a chance to benefit from the expertise of a high-level coach to reach new heights. Only time will tell if these discussions will lead to a concrete agreement, but one thing is certain, this prospect is already generating a lot of attention and anticipation.
