The financial situation of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) is currently at the center of controversy, exacerbated by the organization of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

FAF President Walid Sadi has denounced the exorbitant costs associated with the event, pointing fingers at mismanagement and an unreasonable increase in expenses under the leadership of Rachid Oukali, head of the organizing committee.

During the ordinary general assembly at the National Army Club in Beni Messous, Walid Sadi, accompanied by the comptroller, outlined the seriousness of the situation. According to them, the current federal board inherited a colossal debt, reaching 700 billion centimes. Of this sum, 250 billion centimes are directly attributable to expenses related to the CHAN. This precarious financial situation has sparked sharp criticism towards previous administrations and their handling of funds.

Sadi’s public denouncement sheds light not only on the current financial challenges of the FAF but also on issues of transparency and accountability in the management of major sporting events. Excessive spending related to the CHAN has created an economic burden for the federation, potentially compromising other essential projects and initiatives for the development of Algerian football.

This situation calls for a thorough reflection on resource management and financial planning within the FAF. It is crucial to learn from this experience to prevent such budget overruns from occurring in the future, thus ensuring more effective and responsible management of sporting events.
