The last few hours have been turbulent in Algerian football as persistent rumors circulated regarding USM Alger’s participation in the upcoming Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup.
These speculations were fueled by an announcement from CS Constantine on social media claiming that CAF had validated their own participation, while USMA had not posted anything to that effect.
The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) intervened to clarify the situation in an official statement released on its website following the federal bureau meeting on Thursday, June 27.
In this statement, FAF explicitly stated that all Algerian clubs intending to participate in CAF competitions must register via CAF’s official “Club” platform before June 30. This declaration aims to regularize the situation and put an end to speculation surrounding USMA’s participation.
“The Algerian clubs, namely MC Alger, CR Belouizdad, USM Alger (USMA), and CS Constantine, will be required to register via CAF’s official ‘Club’ platform before June 30,” detailed FAF in a statement published on its website alongside the federal bureau meeting on Thursday, June 27.
The controversy arose after CS Constantine publicly claimed to have received confirmation from CAF regarding its participation in the upcoming CAF Cup edition. This announcement raised questions about the fate of USM Alger, another renowned club in Algeria, which had not yet publicly announced validation of its participation by CAF.
Alongside this clarification on African competition participation, FAF also made other significant decisions during its meeting. It notably confirmed the return of the Algerian Super Cup, scheduled for January 17 or 18, 2025. Furthermore, the Round of 32 of the Algerian Cup has been set for December 20, 2024, marking the start of another intense season of national competitions.
