The coach Vladimir Petković and the Algerian national team are facing a smear campaign orchestrated by certain “pseudo-supporters” nostalgic for Djamel Belmadi, to the extent of ignoring Petkovic’s impressive achievements and journey.
These detractors seek to downplay and tarnish the accomplishments of the new Algerian coach, Vladimir Petković, forgetting the numerous positive signs he has brought since taking office at the end of February, in contrast to the time when a certain 4-3-3 formation no longer allowed for smooth gameplay.
Certainly, Petković’s open style of play may expose the defense to some weaknesses, but winning matches 3-2 is far more satisfying than a modest 1-0, especially for supporters who aspire to see the Algerian team triumph once again.
Algeria has had great coaches, but none with the CV of Petković. Even Halilhodžić hasn’t coached in the Euro and World Cup or won titles in a footballing nation like Italy.
Constructive criticism is essential, but this campaign against Petković and the players is a real shame. Let us unite to support our national team in this crucial time and encourage them to new successes, as love for the country and the national team must come first.
