For the March training camp, as well as for the upcoming FIFA dates, the coach of the Algerian national team, Vladimir Petkovic, might opt to do without one of Djamel Belamdi’s most favored players.

Ramiz Zerrouki, Algerian international and Feyenoord player, is gearing up to join the Algerian national team’s training camp under the helm of Vladimir Petkovic early next month, in preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Guinea and Uganda. Zerrouki, 25, has faced difficulties this season in the Eredivisie, featuring in 25 matches, with only 14 as a starter, without scoring or assisting. His performances have been criticized, with some attributing Feyenoord’s downturn partly to him, as the team failed to retain their championship title.

During Djamel Belmadi’s tenure, Zerrouki was regarded as one of his favorites, enjoying consistent support despite his inconsistent performances. However, with Petkovic leading the team, the situation could shift if Zerrouki fails to elevate his game. Competition is fierce with the return of Ismaël Bennacer and the emergence of Ahmed Kendouci, Nabil Bentaleb, and Hicham Boudaoui.

Feyenoord coach Arne Slot, who will depart for Liverpool this summer, highlighted Zerrouki’s main issue as his lack of speed and adaptation to Feyenoord’s style of play, which demands defending in open spaces. Slot mentioned that Zerrouki struggled to adapt to this system compared to his time at Twente, where he played in a more compact manner.
