Absent from the first gathering of national team coach Vladimir Petkovic, Youcef Belaili will have a different fate this June.

Indeed, Belaili is back. The name of the former Brest player will indeed be present on Vladimir Petkovic’s final list, as indicated by the media outlet La Gazette du Fennec.

Recently crowned champion of Algeria with Mouloudia d’Alger, where he is the top scorer alongside his teammate Zakaria Naidji (11 goals), Belaili is called up for the June camp, which will feature two matches for the 3rd and 4th rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, first against Guinea on June 6th and then against Uganda, four days later.

After making two appearances under Christian Gourcuff in 2015, Belaili disappeared from the national team radar until 2018 when Djamel Belmadi decided to call him up.

The player then became a key figure in the national team. Therefore, Petkovic, who recently toured Algerian clubs, has decided to give Belaili another chance after initially leaving him out. It remains for the Oran-born player to earn his place.
