Barcelona legend Juan Manuel Asensi (495 matches, 131 goals, 5 titles, 41 caps for Spain) has responded to comments made by Real Madrid’s Brazilian star Vinicius Júnior, who suggested that Spain should be stripped of hosting the 2030 World Cup due to numerous racist incidents in Spanish stadiums.
“In my opinion, Spain is not a racist country, and I tell Vinicius that Spanish football is not racist,” Asensi said in an interview with Egyptian media outlet Al Qahera News.
During the interview, Asensi also criticized the overload of matches during the season, stating that the packed schedule leads to a lack of rest, increasing the physical strain and risk of injury. He emphasized the importance of better addressing players’ recovery needs.
