Following the announcement of the ten finalists for the Ballon d’Or Africain 2024, sports analyst Nabil Djellit expressed his disappointment at CAF’s choices during a broadcast on Canal+ Sport.
He highlighted the absence of certain players, notably Ivorians Franck Kessié and Evan Ndicka, which he found incomprehensible.
According to Djellit, Côte d’Ivoire, the CAN 2023 champions, should be better represented among the nominees. He declared: “If this is the African top 10, it’s a terrible advertisement for Africa. Côte d’Ivoire, the best team in Africa, only has one player present.”
This player, Simon Adingra, could nevertheless surprise. Thanks to his outstanding performances with Brighton in the Premier League and his crucial role during the African Cup of Nations, Adingra is a serious contender for the trophy. The winner of the Ballon d’Or Africain will be announced on December 16, 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco.
