On RMC’sRothen s’enflammeprogram , former Girondins de Bordeaux player and consultant Christophe Dugarry shared his opinion on Real Madrid’s last-minute decision not to send a delegation to the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
“Honestly, this debate doesn’t interest me at all. I don’t care about the Ballon d’Or. As for Real Madrid’s attitude, of course it’s shameful. They do what suits them. For years, the Ballon d’Or has used Real, and Real has taken advantage of the Ballon d’Or for its commercial strategy and to sell soccer. I’m tired of all this drama between them. It doesn’t interest me, really… I couldn’t care less.”
Eric Di Meco then spoke:
“I’m glad we’re not debating the Ballon d’Or more, because it goes against my vision of soccer. To come to the point, what’s regrettable is that in this increasingly individualistic soccer, the clubs themselves are participating in this trend.
They shouldn’t be surprised, then, that the players think only of their statistics and individual brilliance rather than the collective and their club. Even the directors are falling for it. It’s terrible… especially for an institution like Real Madrid. It’s surprising, really… ”
