Samuel Eto’o finds himself embroiled in yet another day of damning accusations and wild revelations in Cameroon. The president of FECAFOOT, currently amidst an unprecedented crisis with the Marc Brys affair, now faces allegations of extravagant connections with the Zambian federation.

Following the arrest of the president of the Zambian Football Federation for embezzlement of public funds, whistleblower Boris Bertolt accuses Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, of misappropriating 2.7 billion CFA francs to facilitate travel for his friends and associates during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

An XXL scandal: Samuel Eto’o once again accused

The embezzlement scandal rocking the Zambian Football Federation (FAZ) is having repercussions beyond Zambian borders. In Cameroon, whistleblower Boris Bertolt accuses Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), of misappropriating 2.7 billion CFA francs to facilitate travel for his friends and associates during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. An affair that could land Samuel Eto’o in prison if proven guilty.

This is what whistleblower Boris Bertolt, who no longer hides his animosity towards Samuel Eto’o, has posted. According to Boris’s account, on April 23, 2024, the Drug Enforcement Commission of Zambia (DEC) arrested the president of the Zambian Football Federation (FAZ), Andrew Kamanga, and its general secretary, Rueben Kamanga, along with two others, Madalitso Kamanga and Jairous Siame, for “obtaining money under false pretenses contrary to section 309 of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.” The four are accused of embezzlement of public funds. According to DEC investigations, the suspects obtained money from the Zambian government under false pretenses to attend the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This money was allegedly transferred to the personal accounts of Madalitso Kamanga and Jairous Siame, who also obtained round-trip tickets. However, investigations revealed that neither Madalitso Kamanga nor Jairous Siame held official or executive positions within FAZ.

Boris Bertolt points fingers at Samuel Eto’o

In Cameroon, whistleblower Boris Bertolt accuses Samuel Eto’o, president of FECAFOOT, of misappropriating 2.7 billion CFA francs to facilitate travel for his friends and associates during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. According to Boris Bertolt, Samuel Eto’o exceeded the expenses already allocated by the Cameroonian government to facilitate travel for over 500 people with state funds, including magistrate friends, girlfriends, social media activists, governors’ wives, and more. “In Cameroon, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation has taken, apart from the expenses already allocated by the government, 2.7 billion CFA francs with which he has traveled his friends, magistrate friends of his, girlfriends, activists on social networks, women, governors’ wives, etc…. more than 500 people with state money. No doubt if the Cameroonian government follows in Zambia’s footsteps, Samuel ETO’O is simply a walking prisoner. He knows it,” accuses Boris Bertolt.

Samuel Eto’o is focused on another matter. Indeed, the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the match-fixing scandal and Samuel Eto’o’s contract with 1XBET is at the center of all discussions in Cameroon. It is in this tense context that major players in Cameroonian football convened yesterday in Yaoundé. The objective of this meeting: to devise a common strategy in case of disagreement with CAF’s decision.
