Just days before the start of their training camp, the Indomitable Lions are still undecided on the site they will occupy for the preparation of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Marc Brys has chosen the Ngoa Ekelle Stadium in Yaoundé as the training ground for the Indomitable Lions’ camp.
The Belgian coach, accompanied by members of the staff appointed by Mouelle Kombi and some officials from the Ministry of Sports, inspected the facilities last Thursday. However, the battle between the Ministry of Sports (MINSEP) and the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) is overshadowing the national team’s preparation. And the Indomitable Lions are still undecided on the site they will occupy for the preparation of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
“As the Indomitable Lions are set to face the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde and the Black Antelopes of Angola, the players still do not know where their camp will be held. This is due to two conflicting opinions.
While the Ministry of Sports and Marc Brys, the coach, have opted for the military stadium of Ngoa Ekelle, FECAFOOT is leaning towards the Mundi complex. This rather awkward situation leaves the players in limbo. Moreover, several players have received two invitations and two different flight plans to join the team’s den,” reads a statement from our colleagues at Camfoot.
This latest escalation in the crisis of Cameroonian football could have significant consequences for the national team, which is about to begin preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Marc Brys’ men will face Cape Verde and Angola in early June. It is feared that this situation will disrupt the preparation of the Indomitable Lions and affect their performance on the field. With 7 days remaining until the start of the camp and 14 days until the first match against Cape Verde, everything is still undecided. It is uncertain which staff will have precedence, or even where the camp will take place.
