Aston Villa, qualified for the Champions League and seeking midfield reinforcements, has prioritized Zambo Anguissa.
Three years ago, Aston Villa expressed interest in signing Zambo Anguissa while he was still at Fulham. Napoli managed to beat Aston Villa to secure the midfielder on loan from Fulham in summer 2021, making his stay permanent a year later.
Aston Villa is now considering bringing back the former Fulham player to the Premier League this summer. This is reported by Il Mattino, which specifies that Villa has made an official offer to secure the midfielder’s services.
Currently at Napoli, the 28-year-old has a contract until June 2025. Valued at 35 million euros, the Cameroonian international (58 caps, 5 goals) could be allowed to leave if he does not extend his contract.
Discussions have reportedly begun with the player’s camp. The Yaoundé native is coming off a strong season with one goal and three assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. However, Napoli has reportedly immediately responded to the Premier League club’s request, rejecting Villa’s proposal for the Cameroonian international. The 28-year-old is claimed to be “untouchable” for Napoli and their new manager, Antonio Conte, hence they will not entertain any approaches for him in this transfer window.
Aston Villa, managed by Unai Emery and directed by Monchi, now faces a serious battle if they are to pursue this idea. The former Fulham midfielder’s contract with Napoli runs until 2025, with an option to extend for an additional two years. Qualified for the Champions League and keen to bolster their midfield, Aston Villa is making an international Cameroonian their priority.
