The crisis currently shaking Cameroonian football has taken a new turn with explosive revelations. An anonymous official from the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has leaked damning information about the disastrous management of Samuel Eto’o and his team.

In a message sent to Professor Nganang, this FECAFOOT employee, claiming to have been in office since the era of Iya Mohamed, did not mince words. “Many still consider Eto’o as the player he was, when in reality, he is a poor leader. I will even tell you that he is the worst president of FECAFOOT that I have known,” he said.

According to him, FECAFOOT is currently in a catastrophic financial situation, with many unpaid debts and a glaring lack of equipment. “FECAFOOT is bankrupt, what you wrote about the equipment is true. We have no equipment here,” he asserted and was relayed by the local media outlet Camerounweb.

Contracts violated and legal action against FECAFOOT

The whistleblower also revealed that FECAFOOT was threatened with legal action by the company One All Sports, with which it allegedly signed a contract known only to Eto’o and his team. “One All Sports has written to us, as they will take us to court for non-compliance with the clauses of the contract that we have not seen to this day. Only Eto’o and his team know what this contract looks like,” reads the report on Camerounweb.

Worse still, the anonymous employee accused Eto’o, currently in Benin, of embezzling funds intended for the purchase of buses for the national team, preferring to buy a 2022 Land Cruiser for his personal use. “The bus you’re talking about can’t even run anymore, even though the COMEX gave him over 100 million to buy two buses. But he preferred to buy the LandCruiser 2022 that he uses as a service car,” he denounced. According to him, Eto’o also doubled his salary and had hotel expenses and other expenses covered up to 500 million CFA francs per year. “He doubled his salary, in addition to having his expenses at the Hilton and other expenses covered, which amount to nearly 500 million per year,” he claimed.

Opaque management of finances and equipment

The FECAFOOT official also criticized the management of finances and equipment for the national team under Eto’o’s presidency. He revealed that equipment purchased during the last AFCON actually came from China. “During the last AFCON, we bought equipment that, in reality, came from China. People don’t know the harm these individuals have done to our football,” he denounced. He also called for an audit of the management of Benoît Amgbwa, coordinator of the national teams, who allegedly managed over 50 billion CFA francs in 3 years without being held accountable.

An appeal to the government to save Cameroonian football

Faced with this disastrous situation, the FECAFOOT employee called on the government to intervene and audit the federation. According to him, only action by the Ministry of Sports could save Cameroonian football from the abyss it is plunged into.

“These guys are in trouble up to their necks and only the government can save them. The truth will soon be out. Let the MINSEP request an audit mission of FECAFOOT and all these people will flee the country without looking back,” he concluded.

These explosive revelations once again undermine Samuel Eto’o’s position at the helm of FECAFOOT. They also risk exacerbating tensions with the Ministry of Sports, as crucial matches against Cape Verde and Angola are fast approaching.
