Only a few years after their last encounter, Cameroon and Brazil could face each other in a friendly match in Yaoundé.
The Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) is working towards organizing a prestigious match between the Indomitable Lions and the Brazilian team in Yaoundé.
According to Africa Foot United, led by Samuel Eto’o, the federation has submitted its bid, while its Brazilian counterpart (CBF) plans to face two or three African teams as part of a tour across the continent in March 2026. This tour is part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup scheduled from June 11 to July 19 of the same year.
Eto’o aims to make a big impact
However, the approval of Cameroon’s bid is contingent upon the five-time African champions qualifying for the 23rd edition of the World Cup, to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Marc Brys’ squad is currently leading their group in the African qualifiers with 8 points, one point ahead of the second place, which qualifies for the playoffs.
While qualification is not yet assured, Fecafoot is planning ahead, eager not to miss the opportunity to make a big media splash by hosting the Seleção on home soil. The last time these two nations met was a year and a half ago in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Indomitable Lions secured a late victory with Vincent Aboubakar scoring the only goal in the 90th+2 minute (1-0). Despite this prestigious win, it was not enough to prevent Cameroon from being eliminated in the first round.
