Marc Brys’s first squad list as the new coach of Cameroon has left some disappointed. One of them made his feelings known.
Perhaps he hoped (likely so) that the new coach Marc Brys’s squad list would be invalidated under the impetus of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot). However, the federation made no alterations. Thus, it’s without him that the 30 preselected players will join the den before the final list for the matches against Cape Verde (June 8 in Yaoundé) and Angola (June 11 in Talatona), corresponding to the 3rd and 4th rounds respectively of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This marks a first since his debut with the Indomitable Lions on October 12 last year (a 1-0 defeat against Russia).
“I had prepared myself and had everything in place…”
Frank Magri, the subject of the disappointment, did not hide his dismay. The Toulouse center-forward was rather optimistic after his meeting with the coach, then on a European tour. “During the match against Marseille, he (Brys) came to see us, and I met him the next day. Whether I was surprised or not, that’s not necessarily the question. I had prepared myself and had everything in place to be part of the selection, but that’s how it is. It’s part of a footballer’s life,” he confessed in an interview with Sportnewsafrica.
Brys’s explanations
With 6 goals and 3 assists in 37 appearances in his first season in the Pink City, the former Bastia player doesn’t give up. “I’m not on this list, but I can be on the next one. The goal is to first play and perform well at the club. Only then can I be selected,” he positively noted.
On his part, the coach justified the 24-year-old player’s absence in a press conference by citing suboptimal physical condition. “Frank Magri and Enzo Tchato play little at their clubs and have been recently injured…” explained the Antwerp strategist. As a reminder, the Agen native has earned 9 caps with 2 goals scored.
