Ghorbal Mustapha will be in charge of refereeing the top match of the 4th day of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Group D, reports our colleagues from Equinoxe Radio.
According to this private media outlet, broadcasting from Douala, the economic capital of 237 (Cameroon), FIFA has decided to entrust Ghorbal Mustapha with the direction of the top clash on the 4th day of the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Group D, Cameroon against Cape Verde.
The two teams, which are tied on points (4) at the end of the third matchday, will face off on Monday, June 8, 2024, at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé. The kickoff will be given by Ghorbal Mustapha, a 38-year-old Algerian referee. An international referee since 2014, Ghorbal had officiated two matches during the final phase of the 34th AFCON held about 4 months ago in Ivory Coast.
On June 8 in Yaoundé, Ghorbal Mustapha will be assisted by his compatriots Gourari (1st assistant) and Zerhouni (2nd assistant). The Algerian Gamouh and the Seychellois Labrosse will respectively occupy the positions of 4th official and Referee Inspector. Equatorial Guinean Ondo Abeku has been designated as the match commissioner.
Ranked among the top African referees, Ghorbal Mustapha also officiated three matches during the last FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. He was also part of the very exclusive circle of 5 referees retained until the end of the tournament, as they were considered potential candidates to officiate the final between Argentina and France in Doha.
After their match against the Cape Verdean team, the Cameroonian team will leave Yaoundé for Lunda, where Cameroon will play against Angola on June 11, a match for the fifth matchday, notes the blue channel.
