“Cameroon has a single football icon, just as we have a single political hero”.

“It is at least a beautiful irony that the Cameroonian journalist Venant Mboua shares. The former from the newspaper Le Messager mainly targets certain fanatics who criticize the recent appointment of Omam Biyik to the new technical staff of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

In recent days, there has been a sort of onslaught launched against the former indomitable lion Omam Biyik on the Cameroonian web (237). Rumors have even announced the withdrawal of his name from the new staff of the Indomitable Lions recently appointed and installed by Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education. Riding on this news, the journalist Venant Mboua makes a form of irony about Cameroonian opinion.

“One country, one people, one icon! Omam Biyik is nothing. What has he done for Cameroon? Moreover, if he is appointed assistant coach, it is just to make a pact with the devil. They say it’s the 3rd time they’ve called on him? Well, the other times were to prepare him to fight our only legend! People talk, Kaña Biyik also talks? Him, who is he even?! Does he have a private jet? Does Putin know him? Joseph Antoine Bell? Ah, an old bitter-jealous-malicious-witch-evil-chief! A rascal who was appointed to close football stadiums in the national championship,” Venant Mboua ironically remarks in a recent statement.

Voluntarily amnesiac, some have unfortunately forgotten that before their unique star…

“Do not listen to the false chroniclers who speak to you of the past while we manage the present. Cameroon has only one football icon, as we have only one political hero. Moreover, one is the son of the other! This affair is like this country. There are hundreds of ethnicities but we have only one country. We have many footballers but only one has played football! For our peace, let us sing in chorus: one country, one people, one icon!”, continues the former Le Messager journalist.

This statement has sparked the reaction of several Cameroonians. “I have been saying since the Champions League trophies are in Barcelona and Milan. Oman Biyick waited for the quarter-finals of the World Cup which gave 5 places to Africa. Since the 90s generation, who mostly played in Cameroon, nothing. The Manga Oguenés, Thomas Nkonos got their African Ballon d’Or playing for Canon Yaoundé. They were not professionals,” comments Martin Stephane. “Voluntarily amnesiac, some have unfortunately forgotten that before their unique uncriticizable star, there were, however, dozens of criticizable ones. Cameroon is not Lesotho. I do not come in peace, onong!” regrets Ciriac Oloum.
