Twenty-one years ago today, Marc-Vivien Foé tragically passed away during a match of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon against Colombia in Lyon, as part of the Confederations Cup. It was a tragedy that deeply touched football enthusiasts worldwide.
On June 26, 2003, the Yaoundé native was struck by a heart attack that claimed his life. His sudden death at the age of 28 shocked and saddened people across the globe. Foé, known as “Marco” in Yaoundé, was unable to roar one last time in the arena while representing his country.

A robust midfielder with impressive individual skills, Foé had a brief but impactful career, contributing significantly to teams such as Lens, West Ham, Lyon, and Manchester City.
With 62 appearances for the Indomitable Lions, Foé played a key role in Cameroon’s triumphs at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2000 (Ghana/Nigeria) and 2002 (Mali).
