Tension appears to be easing between the Ministry of Sports and the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) after a month of conflict.
A crucial meeting is scheduled for this Tuesday between Samuel Eto’o, president of Fecafoot, and Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Minister of Sports, to discuss the future of the technical direction of the Indomitable Lions.
This meeting follows a tumultuous period during which Marc Brys, rumored to be the future coach, was at the center of discussions. Eto’o has faced pressure to finalize Brys’ appointment, while Brys himself has urged the minister to ease tensions with the federation. Despite this, Eto’o seems ready to defy government expectations by appointing a coach of his choice in the coming days, according to whistleblower Shance Lion.
Fecafoot had given Eto’o a 72-hour ultimatum in early April to appoint a new coach and his team, but it appears that official announcements are imminent. Tuesday’s meeting, widely covered by journalist Richard Naha, is expected to address the restructuring of the technical, administrative, and medical staff of the national team, with expectations of a new composition for these positions.
The question remains whether the changes will be minor or if Brys’ position will be questioned, although this seems unlikely given the current context. With World Cup 2026 qualifying matches rapidly approaching, a swift resolution is crucial for the smooth functioning of the national team.
