Kept at a distance from the dressing room for the two matches of Cameroon against Cape Verde (4-1) and Angola (1-1), in the framework of the 3rd and 4th rounds of qualifications for the 2026 World Cup, Samuel Eto’o allegedly infiltrated the Indomitable Lions.
According to the Camfoot website, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot) allegedly placed moles within the national team, thus compromising the system put in place by coach Marc Brys to prevent any interference.
The media cites the example of Jules Armand Kooh, the top scorer of the Elite One championship (Cameroonian first division), to illustrate this situation. The day before the match against Cape Verde, Kooh was reportedly informed by Brys and a few members of the staff that he would be on the match sheet and could even play for 10 to 15 minutes depending on how the match unfolded. However, early in the evening, Fécafoot sent a correspondence to the coach, stating that Kooh and another player, John Bosco Nchindo, had a dual identity. Despite Kooh and his associates presenting justifications, Fécafoot maintained its position, thus preventing Kooh from making his first appearance with the Indomitable Lions.
Spies within the team
The question then arises: how was Fécafoot informed about Kooh’s intended usage when no member of its staff was present in the den or at training sessions? Camfoot suggests that some players are acting as spies for Eto’o, allowing him to keep an eye on the national team despite his declaration of stepping back before these two qualifying matches.
These revelations add another layer of complexity to the tensions within the team, especially since some players recently boycotted a cocktail organized in their honor by Eto’o, after receiving an ultimatum to side with him against the ministry. According to Camfoot, Brys has identified some spies and put them under surveillance.
On Monday, Kooh and his lawyer, who is also his brother, went to Fécafoot to present documents demonstrating his compliance. Finally, Fécafoot acknowledged the validity of his documents this Wednesday and reinstated his rights. Unfortunately, this recognition came too late for Kooh, who missed the opportunity to play with the Indomitable Lions.
