As the 2024-2025 season approaches, tensions have flared between Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot), and local clubs.
Seven months after the conclusion of the last Elite One season, Fecafoot is planning to resume between the end of November and early December. In preparation, the federation has sent clubs the marketing charter and sponsor qualification forms for the upcoming season, with a deadline of November 8 for ratification.
However, the General Assembly of the Association of Cameroonian Elite Clubs (ACEC) has yet to sign these documents, leaving the season’s start in doubt. The clubs, united under ACEC, are demanding the payment of outstanding subsidies from the previous season, threatening not to participate unless the funds are disbursed.
Clubs issue ultimatum, Eto’o remains optimistic
“No money, no league,” warned a club official in comments shared by Actu Cameroun, a stance echoed by another representative on Equinoxe Radio: “We are waiting for the subsidies, not paperwork. It’s inconceivable to enter a new season without being paid for the last one.”
Meanwhile, Samuel Eto’o appears focused on organizing what he promises to be “the best league” since taking over as Fecafoot president. Jean-Marie Nkoussa, Fecafoot’s head of communications, stated, “The president wants this season to be the most remarkable in history.” Nevertheless, this standoff continues to fuel controversy around Fecafoot’s financial management, casting further uncertainty over the season’s kickoff.
