The captain of the Indomitable Lions, Vincent Aboubakar, is on the verge of breaking an incredible record.

Indeed, on June 8, 2024, during the World Cup 2026 qualifiers match against Cape Verde, the Besiktas striker was named in the starting lineup by Marc Brys.

In this match, the 32-year-old striker managed to score a brace, contributing to his team’s comprehensive victory with a scoreline of 4-1.

Thanks to his achievements, Vincent Aboubakar has further solidified his place in the history of Cameroonian football, climbing up the ranks among the top scorers of the national team.

He has now tallied 43 goals in the colors of Cameroon, consolidating his 2nd place, just behind Samuel Eto’o.

The Cameroonian legend, now the president of Fecafoot, has 56 goals with the Indomitable Lions. Vincent Aboubakar is now only 13 goals away from equaling Samuel Eto’o’s record and becoming the all-time leading goalscorer of the Cameroonian national team.

But at 32 years old, it will be particularly difficult for the Besiktas star to achieve this feat before retiring from international football.

Nevertheless, he is significantly closing in on Samuel Eto’o’s record, trailing closely behind.

Despite not having played for the biggest European clubs, Vincent Aboubakar remains one of the greatest Cameroonian strikers of recent years.
