On Wednesday, June 12th, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, held an important meeting with the technical staff of the Indomitable Lions.

Present at the meeting were the coach Marc Brys, his assistants, as well as two key players, Vincent Aboubakar and Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui. The purpose of this meeting was to review the outcome of the recent qualification matches for the 2026 World Cup and to discuss the future of the Indomitable Lions.

Recent Match Review

Following the victory (4-1) in Yaoundé against Cape Verde and the draw (1-1) against Angola in Luanda, the Cameroonian team can be proud of its performances, especially considering the difficult non-sporting context. Marc Brys provided a detailed report on these two matches during the meeting.

Tensions with Samuel Eto’o

Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi subtly took a swipe at Samuel Eto’o, the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot), with whom relations are tense. “The technical staff was praised for the quality work done in a very short time and in a relatively difficult context. They were thanked for their resilience and patience, their concern for dialogue, and their sense of constructive collaboration,” the political statement indicates. The term “relatively difficult context” is clearly a jab at the former Barcelona player.

Congratulations to the Players

The statement also highlighted the players’ performance, who were congratulated. “The Minister asked captain Vincent Aboubakar to convey to his valiant teammates the Government’s congratulations for their good performance and patriotism, in resonance and consistency with the honorable performance objectives recommended by the President of the Republic, H.E. Paul BIYA,” it reads.
