The local Don Quixote had desires and beautiful ones, I presume! But here he is served by misplaced pride, his lack of culture, and a chicken coop of hypocrites, beggars, and other loafers in search of scraps.

The day is declining and no new information about the unreasonable standoff in which he has engaged, or to be clearer, you have encouraged him. I also hear the howls of the uneducated mob less and less, suddenly becoming astute legal experts in a case gone wrong from the start. Shame suits you very poorly, my Dear, and is not made for you. Those who truly love you are not on the side you think. They do not beg, nor do they intend to extract a wing or thigh from their support for you. It’s your past generosity that earns you all these pseudo-sympathies. A wisdom from our land says: “by indefinitely feeding a beggar, he eventually sleeps on your doormat.”
