A few months before the 2025 CAN, André Onana spoke about the countries that Cameroon will have to face, including Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique and Gabon. He clearly indicated that he is not afraid of the latter.
This is simply because he is counting on his teammates who play in big clubs and who are full of talent.
André Onana expressed himself in these terms: “The 2025 CAN? Cameroon is one of the favorites. So we have to assume this leadership status.
We are a very beautiful nation. Our elders have done great things in the past. So we have to try to follow in their footsteps. At the CAN, there are great nations, but Cameroon will have its say.
I, André Onana, the Manchester United goalkeeper, I will not be afraid… with all the respect I have for others. We have players who play at Napoli, in top clubs, in high-level championships.
That doesn’t mean we’re going to win, but I consider us a serious candidate. We can’t lie to ourselves. We have the team to do good things.
We must then work well, not be disturbed, and live well together. We cannot bet everything on the Hemle.”
Note that for this CAN 2025, André Onana and his teammates found themselves in Group F, they will face Mozambique, Gabon and Côte d’Ivoire, the reigning champion.
For his part, Emerse Faé, the coach of the Elephants, indicated that he and his protégés will go to defend their title in Morocco.
“We will come here to defend our title as it should be. It will be difficult, but we will do everything to defend it in the best way. We did not have the chance to celebrate (our coronation at the CAN 2023. Editor’s note) like everyone else.
We celebrated in 1 year, so we are still hot (laughs), and we will arrive with a desire to leave with the trophy. “It’s going to be a tough competition. We’ll have to be serious, not neglect the teams and we’ll see,” he said after the draw. Watch this space.
