The new coach of the Indomitable Lions, Marc Brys, is a technician who doesn’t tolerate any interference in his choices, whether it’s regarding players or the playing system.

The Belgian coach has completed his European tour and is working on establishing his first squad list in preparation for the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which will likely mark his debut with the Indomitable Lions. However, his start is proving to be difficult as his appointment is contested by the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and its president, Samuel Eto’o. Eto’o refuses to sign, which is a prerequisite for FIFA to recognize Brys as the new coach.

But Marc Brys is willing to engage in dialogue with Samuel Eto’o. After hitting a roadblock when trying to meet Eto’o, the former Louvain coach has asked the Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, to “regularize and calm the conflict situation between the ministry and the Cameroonian Football Federation.” In Belgium, where he has coached numerous clubs for over eighteen years, the Flemish coach has built a solid reputation as someone who is uncompromising about his sporting prerogatives.

“I am open to discussion, listening, positive, but the locker room is the domain of the coach, his technical staff, and the players, and neither the Ministry of Sports nor FECAFOOT have a place there,” he said to Le Monde.

This firmness doesn’t surprise former Belgian international Nordin Jbari, now a consultant for several media outlets and acquainted with Marc Brys. “He doesn’t tolerate any interference in his choices, whether it’s about players or the playing system. Brys is very likable, composed, but he has a strong character and isn’t easily influenced.”
