France – Cameroon: Hugo Ekitike breaks the silence and makes a huge choice

As conflicting information circulates regarding his decision to play for the Cameroon team, Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt) has officially clarified his position to the German press.

At the end of April, following his European tour and after discussions with several players, Cameroon’s national team coach, Marc Brys, announced Hugo Ekitike’s decision not to join the Indomitable Lions, preferring to pursue his dream of playing for the French team (with just one appearance for the French U21 team).

“We must respect his choice,” resigned the Flemish technician. However, this information was quickly refuted by the player’s agent, who has been in great form in recent weeks (3 goals and 1 assist in the last five Bundesliga matches). The agent stated that Hugo Ekitike had not made any statements on this matter, “neither to the Lions’ coach nor to the media,” thus leaving hope for Cameroonian supporters.

Finally, the lanky center-forward (1.89 m) put an end to the speculation. In an interview with Bild this Wednesday, the former Parisian confirmed his desire to represent the colors of the French team.

He also mentioned that he will closely follow Didier Deschamps’ team’s journey in the Euro (June 14 – July 14). “I will watch the European Championships on TV during my summer vacation, that’s for sure. But if I show my qualities here in Frankfurt, my dream of playing for France can become a reality. I set no limits for myself. Of course, I can still improve,” he asserted. This statement should definitively close the chapter.
