“Abedi Pelé, former Ghanaian international and legend of African football, calls for respect for Samuel Eto’o. The crisis within Cameroonian football, particularly the heated dispute between the president of FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto’o, and Marc Brys, continues to fuel debates.

Former international footballer Abedi Pelé has reacted to this situation. He has expressed his support for Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, by criticizing the involvement of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education (Minsep) in the management of FECAFOOT.

“Everything is being set in motion in Cameroon to thwart Samuel Eto’o’s presidency. I find it shameful for the men in suits who believe that football is played in their air-conditioned offices.

The president of a federation has shown humility. He is an elected official, while the minister is appointed. Why and how can a minister appoint a coach? Cameroon will never cease to surprise us.

In other countries around the world, the president of the Federation is highly respected, and it’s the opposite among our Cameroonian brothers. Please let this great man work; do not tarnish his reputation. If he doesn’t matter to you, for us Africans from other countries, he is the pride of the continent.”

Abedi Pélé, also known as Abedi Ayew, father of footballers André Ayew and Jordan, is one of the finest footballers the African continent has ever seen. A former Olympique de Marseille player, the Ghanaian striker won three African Golden Ball awards before being named one of CAF’s top 10 players of the last 50 years.
