In a context of disappointment for the Indomitable Lions after their defeat against Nigeria in the round of 16 of Afcon 2023, the Cameroonians came back. This is the case of Me Sikati, a political actor very close to the Cameroon national team. He took the floor to express his concerns about the treatment reserved for goalkeeper André Onana and accuses the President of Fecafoot, Samuel Eto’o whom he affectionately calls “9”.
Between Samuel Eto’o and André Onana, it is no longer apparently perfect love. Arriving on the eve of the match against Guinea, Onana only played against Senegal. After this defeat, the Manchester United goalkeeper was relegated to the bench to everyone’s surprise, followed by a rumor around an altercation between Onana and Samuel Eto’o, the president of Fecafoot. Faced with this issue, Me Sikati opened the way to his concerns by describing “the 9” (Samuel Eto’o) as being “fundamentally selfish and viscerally wicked”.
He then dove into the circumstances surrounding André Onana’s participation in Afcon 2023. “Twice, the 9 had Andre Onana, Manchester United’s starting goalkeeper, benched during Afcon for play Fabrice Ondoa who is a replacement goalkeeper in the 3rd division in France in an amateur club,” he said and relayed by Actu Cameroun.
Onana affair, Eto’o in the dock…
Me Sikati does not mince his words in criticizing Rigobert Song’s decision to put André Onana back on the bench during Afcon 2023. He affirms that this will have had a negative impact on the career of the former Nerrazurri goalkeeper. “However, if Fecafoot doubted Onana’s performance, it only had to not select him because we do not summon the goalkeeper of the great Manchester United to put him on the bench and play a replacement goalkeeper in 3rd division,” added Me Sikati.
Me Sikati goes further by accusing Samuel Eto’o of having a personal grudge against André Onana and that he is seeking to sabotage his prestigious career. He claims that these decisions aim to devalue the player in the eyes of Manchester United managers. “The Machiavellian project of 9 with regard to André Onana is not difficult to understand. Returning from Afcon, André Onana was received like a prince by Manchester United. As if to say that the cabal of the 9 is a non-event in this great club. Remember that during the World Cup in Qatar, the 9 had already written to Inter Milan to smear Onana and destroy her career, unfortunately Inter having smelled wickedness had packed the donuts with this letter”, perhaps we read.
He invites Onana to renounce the selection as long as Eto’o is at Fecfaoot
Faced with these circumstances, Me Sikati provides advice to André Onana. Among other advice, he asks him to refuse future call-ups for the Indomitable Lions if the legend Samuel Eto’o is still at the head of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot).
“If Onana is wise, he no longer comes to the selection as long as the 9th is president of the Federation. Let him even avoid any contact with him from now on. The man is bad. What I like about all this is that back from Afcon, André Onana was received like a prince by Manchester United. »
Me Sikati also underlines the psychological importance of André Onana even in poor form and thinks that he should have been lined up against Gambia and Nigeria in the round of 16: “Forgetting that Onana, even in poor form given his international rank, psychologically impacts the opponent. »
