Fabio Cannavaro is the new coach of Udinese, replacing Gabriele Cioffi, who has been dismissed by the club’s management.

Cannavaro, the 2006 Ballon d’Or winner, who has not coached since the end of his tenure with Benevento in 2023, is returning to a Serie A club. The former Guangzhou FC coach will already be on the sidelines for Udinese’s match against Daniele de Rossi’s Roma this Thursday.

It’s a new challenge for Fabio Cannavaro. The former defender was on Samuel Eto’o’s shortlist to succeed Rigobert Song Bahanag as the head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. With Marc Brys being appointed by the Ministry of Sports, the 2006 World Cup champion will not be coming to Cameroon, where he wasn’t even the top choice.
