Constant Omari, former interim president of CAF, weighs in on the potential suspension of Samuel Eto’o.

Amidst a conflict with the Ministry of Sports regarding the selection of the national team coach, Samuel Eto’o, president of FECAFOOT, is now also embroiled in an alleged match-fixing scandal that could tarnish his reputation.

The head of Cameroon’s football governing body was even questioned in Cairo regarding this matter on April 17. The camp of the former star of the Indomitable Lions and FC Barcelona quickly launched a counter-attack by announcing a lawsuit against CAF’s general secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba.

Asked about this affair, Patrice Motsepe stated that the four-time African Ballon d’Or winner is not above the law. Although the president of CAF claims a desire to uphold justice, a former CAF executive has a different analysis of the situation.

Indeed, according to Constant Omari, CAF is seeking to oust Samuel Eto’o. According to the former interim president of the Confederation of African Football, the African football body is actively trying to sideline Samuel Eto’o from the football scene by orchestrating unfounded investigations and manipulating rules to discredit him.

“Before Samuel Eto’o, there was a significant crisis at FECAFOOT that lasted for over 5 years. Samuel Eto’o came with his international renown and embarked on reforms. He disrupted the interests of some, and despite everything, he eventually prevailed. But from the moment Samuel Eto’o displayed his independent mindset at the helm of FECAFOOT, his fate was sealed.

So what we are witnessing today is the unfolding of the process. In 2025, there will be elections for the CAF executive committee, and some members will be renewed, including a former ally turned foe of Samuel. He knows he will struggle to secure Samuel’s endorsement as president of FECAFOOT for re-election. Thus, they have initiated steps to push Motsepe into changing this status.

If CAF fails to amend the statutes before the elections, they need to eliminate Samuel as soon as possible to install someone from the same faction who can ensure their survival. That’s why you see how they are beginning to pit former players against each other. If Cameroonian former players lose control of the federation, they won’t have him. The forces of evil are trying to divide the former players,” revealed Constant Omari in an interview with Richard Naha.
