Jean-Charles Castelletto spoke candidly about his childhood in Cameroon during an interview with the media outlet 90Football.fr.
A former French youth international, Jean-Charles Castelletto eventually chose to represent the senior team of Cameroon, where he has been playing for several years now. His first major tournament was the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where he made a lasting impression and won the hearts of Cameroonians.
He is now one of the key players in the squad. Despite his past wearing the French jersey, Castelletto confesses a deep connection with Cameroon since his childhood. The Canaries defender reflected on his admiration for certain Indomitable Lions and unforgettable moments.
“In Bretigny, I wore the number 4 because I was a fan of Cameroon and Rigobert Song. I had the sleeveless Cameroon jersey. I am very proud now to wear the colors of Cameroon. Since I was little, I’ve been going to Cameroon. My mother is Cameroonian.
Every vacation, I would go to Cameroon. It’s a part of me. Everyone who knows me knows that I have a very African side to me. We’re from Yaoundé, from the Efoulan neighborhood. I’m from the village of Mom. I remember a conversation I had with my grandmother when I was 12-13 years old. She told me, ‘One day, you might be like Eto’o.’ I laughed. I’m not like Eto’o, but just to play for Cameroon, I think they are proud,” shared Jean-Charles Castelletto.
