Samuel Eto’o disagrees with the choice of Marc Brys as the head coach of the Cameroonian national team. The African football legend has identified three managers for this prestigious position.
Amid the controversy surrounding Marc Brys’ appointment as the head coach of the Cameroonian national football team, Samuel Eto’o would prefer former Super Eagles coach, José Peseiro.
Just two months after terminating his contract with the Nigerian Football Federation, José Peseiro could resume his coaching duties with the Indomitable Lions. It has been learned that the Portuguese coach, who led the Super Eagles to finish as runners-up in the 2023 AFCON, is on FECAFOOT’s list to take over the coaching position.
The Portuguese media outlet Bola Narede reports that he is one of three tacticians linked to the position of the Indomitable Lions’ head coach. Hervé Renard and Fabio Cannavaro are also being considered.
Earlier reports suggested that Belgian manager Marc Brys was handed a 30-month contract by Cameroonian Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, replacing Rigobert Song. This decision sparked a dispute among the top officials of the country’s football federation, led by its president, Samuel Eto’o.
The African legend claims that Brys was appointed without consulting the football governing body. Eto’o said, “The national federation cannot recognize these appointments made outside any legal and regulatory framework.”
FECAFOOT officials stated that they were not part of the selection process. FIFA, the global football governing body, prohibits any form of government involvement in football. A spokesperson said on Tuesday, “We are trying to shed light on this regrettable situation.”
