According to the new head coach, Marc Brys, the Cameroon national team, also known as the Indomitable Lions, will be giving local league players a chance. After his talent scouting tour in Europe, Brys is back in Yaoundé with a strong determination to succeed in his role.

The Belgian coach has made a bold decision to reside in Cameroon’s capital for the duration of his contract, demonstrating his deep commitment to Cameroonian football. By being based in Yaoundé, Brys will be closer not only to his office at the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) but also to local football.

This move will allow him to closely monitor the Cameroonian league, identify promising talents, and forge stronger connections with local players and stakeholders. He aims to keep a keen eye on local football and will regularly attend league matches to give deserving players an opportunity.

“We want the best players from the local league. We already have two or three names in mind, and we will be having discussions with them,” he revealed.

Appointed to succeed Rigobert Song, who was not retained after two years in charge of the Indomitable Lions, Marc Brys is already hard at work. The Belgian coach, who traveled across Europe to meet Cameroonian internationals and dual-nationality players, is now back in Cameroon’s capital.

The upcoming outings of the Cameroon national team under Marc Brys’s leadership will be closely watched. The next two official matches for the Indomitable Lions will be against Cape Verde and Angola in June 2024.

As for the local players who might be on the new coach’s shortlist, it’s hard to say definitively without more information, but it’s likely that those who have consistently performed well in the Cameroonian league and caught the attention of scouts and coaches will be considered.
