Upon his arrival in Yaoundé on Friday evening, Marc Brys hinted that we could soon see local players among the Indomitable Lions.

The coach of the Indomitable Lions, Marc Brys, intends to give a chance to players from the local championship. After his few weeks trip to Europe, the Belgian returned to Cameroon on Friday evening. The Belgian technician will now prepare for the matches against Cape Verde and Angola in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. He has just dropped some hints about his first squad.

Indeed, in his first remarks, Marc Brys stated that he intends to rely on local players to bring a glimmer of hope to Cameroonian football, which is going through a dark period. Brys said on CRTV Sports: “We want the best players from the local championship. We already have two or three names in mind, and we will talk to them.”

We can think, a priori, of two players from the Victoria United championship: attacking midfielder Nathan Douala and defender Emmanuel Moungan (18 years old), coveted by FC Porto.

Between controversy and non-recognition of his arrival by the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and its president Samuel Eto’o, the 61-year-old Belgian must find ways to convince through results very quickly. His situation is still not regularized as he is still waiting to be officially recognized by Eto’o as the new coach, and the trend in recent hours is not necessarily one of crisis resolution.
